The Mechanical Logging site of Nuorti (1913-1916)

Transporting the steam locomotives to the woods of Nuorti was a huge operation.

The first locomotive was shipped to Hanko harbour in Southern Finland. In January 1913 the locomotive was transported to Rovaniemi by train. Here it was unpacked in smaller pieces and transported to Nuorti by horse sledges.

The mechanical logging was not as successful as it was thought to be. It cost more than was expected but result was against expectations. The logging site in Nuorti ended in 1916 because of the First World War.
